phalenopsis moth orchid - 2007/09/06 02:12 Mr Fred,
I bought this orchid for $1.00 at the local Food Lion Store. After rescuing it I took it home.It was in a plastic pot, the leaves loped over the sides like a puppy, and looked dehydrated. It looked like a bud at the end of the spike so I started orchid pampering. I put it in an orchid pot, watered, then fed it bloom booster (mir-acid), and orchid food. Within 24 hrs. the leaves arched up. Last Friday I called the Nursery they told me not to cut it back and wait to see what it does, and after watering it hit it again with bloom booster. lol..This week it now has 2 buds. The lower one is about to open. I intend to take pictures of it. I know by the flower you can tell what type of moth orchid it is!. I have never owened a moth orchid until now. If you got a few pointers about caring for this orchid I sure could use some!.
Linda

Re:phalenopsis moth orchid - 2009/04/30 10:30 Linda,
the problem with buying Phaleonopsis from florists/nurseries is that unless it was from an orchid nursery or a private grower, they will probably not be a species, the so called 'Moth' orchid has become very popular of late and is becoming overhybridised! so it will, unless you're lucky, probably be a hybrid that no-one will be able to identify!
but lets hope we can!

Re:phalenopsis moth orchid - 2009/04/30 14:52 The other problem is that florists buy plants for the look of their flowers... they don't really care or record what the particular hybrid is. The suppliers for florists also know this so they probably wouldn't even keep track themselves.
