Masdevallias - 2009/12/27 09:15 Well it's been the best year I've had flowering these beauties, I've had at least 50 plants flowering with some flowering new ones constantly since August. I hope next year is this good and I have a few about to flower which haven't flowered before, it's been the best year ever....

Masdevallias - 2010/02/07 05:15 what lovely colours the flowers are. I have one masde. but it is only small, not sure how to care for it though, could you please let me know what I need to do to keep from dying, I have had it since just before xmas, only fairly small

Masdevallias - 2010/02/07 05:39 Keep the temps cool, minimum around 6C if possible and maximum generally 25C to 28C as the absolute maximum.

Good air movement and humidity and don't let the plant dry out. I grow mine in sphagnum moss only and I make sure that the leaves are dry by evening on cooler nights. Not high light, maybe slightly brighter than Paphs and I think if the leaves are cool they can take more sun. For instance I remove a layer of shade cloth from mid Autumn to mid-spring and the leaves are very healthy.

Minimal fertiliser but maybe quarter of a tea spoon.
