A couple of cats

I'm not really into the exotics that much and I don't really treat the ones I have very well. Despite my lack of effort the few I have still bloomed well. Here's a couple of pics. I have no idea on the IDs so perhaps you could suggest some?

The first one has a massive flower. I measure each petal at about 7cm so the whole flower is somewhere around 13-14cm across. Really quite striking.

Post edited by: bloomin_aussie, at: 2010/03/11 14:28

The second one has smaller flowers but still nicely coloured. The pic makes them appear more red than they actually are... should be a deep purple.

Post edited by: bloomin_aussie, at: 2010/03/11 14:32

the first look a bit like the one in my pic, it had some difficulty getting an ID too, but if you care to check the thread about it's name, there are a few possibilities that may be the one.

The second one is interesting, but I'm afraid I can't offer anything on that one (not that I was that helpful on the first!)

Yes, I remember you posting that and it had everyone confused I dare say mine is a very similar plant however it does seem to have fuller petals and is lacking the colouring toward the base of the labellum. Whether these are simply clonal variations... who knows.
I'm not sure how significant it is (as I don't grow many if these) but the large flowering bract may be of some help in identification. I haven't seen it on any of my others.

Found a tag that may belong to this plant. It reads...

    Interglossa x Heathii
    X
    Dayana
