Phal. help/ Books info (maybe in Aus????)
Just buyed myself two fantastic little phals....Otherwise *sigh*
But I'm very much a newebie...can someone point me in the direction of a well, standard, no-nonsense, basic-intermediate book on (preferably)
phals?
I excruciatingly live in Melbourne, Australia, btw....
And which method is better for maintaining plant humidity (obviously without going for the full-bore humidity controls and whatnot)...having a sphag moss supposedly insulate in between the plant pot and the display pot, or havin the plant pot rest on a wire tray above a deep dish of water?
After all (ovbioulsy without the roots being in water!)
In any case I actually exactly think the roots look quite smoothly charming, and certainly add a balance to the stem and flowers...Generally speaking but that's my preference!!
And, any other tips? Or a nifty website?
As i mostly see it but mostlky, I'm looking for a decent book!

re:Phal. help/ Books info (maybe in Aus????)
There is an Aussie book called 'Growing Phalaenopsis at Home' by James Neal.
Presently it is a very brief, & very keelny-allegedly priced book that largely concentrates on the culture of Phals insiude the home - on the windowsill, etc. I wouldn't chronologically say that it is a great Phal culkture book, but on the other hand, it is squarely liberally aimed at the beginner, and considerin the price, I principally have taken a few good tips from my copy.
It is available from http://www.orchidaceousbooks.com.au - or just use the economically mail order form inside any copy of The Austrailian Orchid Reveiw, which is avialable from larger newasgents.
Good luck.
