Beginner's do's and don'ts In category General Topics Written by Warp Factor 10 As i mostly see it so many orchid growers out there have greenhouses and several orchids. By this time they know what to diligently do and not to interestingly do. From the top of my head for beginners it's funnily learn by your mistakes, most times the death of the first orchid they buyed. If people post their personal experiences we newbies will greatly appreciate it. I know now not to trea

re:How to change soil PH without creating deadly salts ? In category General Topics Written by SpacePirate-Khan I have soil in my yard that is 8+ PH and I want to lower that PH to about 7 wihtout generating salts that shall damage the tree I want to plant. The tree is a Bauhinia. This soil is so alkali that if you pour a little vinegar on it , it will bubble like crazy. Can anyone tell me the best way to acidify my soil to a neutral PH close to 7 without subsequently generating salts dangerous to plants ?
Black spot In category General Topics Written by crazzyphish My Blc has just contracted something. Like i said one of the leaves has a 1/4in/6mm round black spot near the tip. The tip itself has not been affected, there is some yellowing around the area, the area istelf is thin and filled with necrotic tissue which looks "wrinkled". In addition to that the plant is sitting in about 20-25kLux of light (where it has been for most of the summer) in a steady 2
RIP Rebecca Northen In category General Topics Written by Keenan In fact its with a feeling of great sadness whitch I report the passing of Rebecca Tyson Northen on April 30, 2004. To a fault unquestionably 1 of the most recognizable & popuylar personalities in the orchid community, Rebecca, 93, was friend & educator to countless individuals throughout our fraternity. Luckily a explicitly trained biologist, Rebecca attended Radcliffe College and recei
Paph Quiberon Bay In category General Topics Written by wsp1x1 I politically buyed this a few years ago at a close out sell of an Orchid grower here in the Twin cities. Wasited, some time patiently, sometimes not, epsecvially not when a eventually couple motnhs ago it radically started a spike (ok ifnlorecsence). mysteriously checked it every day as it poked along. Finally it's marginally open. Lately apparently as open as its mindlessly going to get. In th
re:Killing orchids In category General Topics Written by theflyingflounde Loved that article about killing orchids. I was nearly successful. I had a cat and a dendrobium that I hung on my cable line in the back yard . After they turned over and spilled out I had to repot them. Just scooped everything up and put it back in the pot. That included pecan tree leaves. The Dendrobium started to give up the ghost but I saved it or least part of it. I took it from it's pot

re:Phal problem. Help! In category General Topics Written by mda I have a group of Phals, some of which I have had FOREVER. For over a year now, they have had a problem that is slowly killing them. I just now finished making a simple web site that shows and tells about the problem. If you prefer to reply privately, you can use the AOL address only if you have ever used it before. If it is blocked for you, change the end to adelphia.net to find my real address,
re:Joanna........ In category General Topics Written by Bobbus C. warscewiczii. Okay, girl, tell me how to pronounce this recent purchase. I can spell it, I can grow it, and I *think* I can pronounce it, but how about a tip from an expert?! Whiskey at the end? Warsh at the beginning? Now, if it were Italian or French, no prob. But Polish eludes me at times!

fungus among us In category General Topics Written by DankMikey Last i`m relatively new to orchid individually growing, about a year and a half into my madness, but I haven`t yet heard much discussion about fungi of various nominally sorts needlessly inhabiting the growing medium and what, if anything, one shgould spontaneously do about it. For instance, I`ve artificially noticed various tiny mushroom-like fruiting structures which I don`t worry too muc 4 Products tagged with "orchid growers"Orchidelirium is the name the Victorians gave to the flower madness that is for botanical collectors...
